But First, Let Me Take a [Scuba] Selfie
Whether you love it, hate it or take it when you think no one's looking, you know all about the photo craze that's taken the social media world by storm: the selfie.
The strategically shot picture of one's self has inspired songs, hashtags and even psychiatric research (fun fact: selfies could be linked to narcissism and low self-esteem), and now it's permeating the dive world, too.
But hey, we're not judging anything but the Photo Contest.
So sit back, relax and enjoy this gallery of scuba diving selfies submitted to our 2014 Through Your Lens Photo Contest. But before you do, make sure you take a #Selfie.
Photo names and captions provided by photographers. Winners of the 2014 Through Your Lens Photo Contest will be announced with the release of our September/October print issue. Look for it on newsstands this August!

Gilbert the toad became so friendly that he followed me, always coming towards me (maybe also intrigued by my front-dome, and his own reflect on it).

Jellyfish Lake in Palau is home to thousands of stingerless jellyfish. They have been isolated from the surrounding sea for so long that they no longer have a need for strong stinging cells, instead getting nutrients from algae that live inside of them.

The body color of the Hypseldoris bullockii varies from white to dark purple. The jacket is lined with a white line, which sometimes can be red. The long rhinoforen and the gills are yellow. I have never seen a bullockii so big a diver could almost hide himself behind it.

This little damsel had no perspective of size, or if it did, it did not care. It would charge away from the security of it's spot on the wreck, just to let you know who was boss.
