Nearest Point: Sheer Drops and Sandy Shallows, All at One Dive Site

Divi Flamingo

Located at the east point of Klein Bonaire and a short boat ride from Divi Dive Resort, Nearest Point is a diverse, kaleidoscopic reef. With drastic depth changes—from 10 to 100 feet below—and a distinctive contrast of submerged ridges and sandy channels, divers can experience numerous sites’ worth of features in one trip.

Nearest Point’s shallows bring together a bouquet of soft corals and sea rods to admire. Schools of goatfish and other bottom dwelling reef fish gather together as divers glide overhead, with the occasional ray kicking clouds of sand up from the sea floor.

This reef’s drastic slopes lodge black coral formations, as well as splendidly colored soft and hard corals. Bright yellow and purple tube sponges poke between unique formations of huge elephant ear sponges. Divers will also find different species of angelfish, snappers and barracudas swimming along Nearest Point’s coral slopes. Nearest Point’s pellucid waters allow divers to explore the slopes, and the site’s minimal to no current can help beginning and non-divers learn to feel comfortable in their fins.
