Trips To Exotic Places Top List Of Prizes For Underwater Images Competition
A Trip for two to Walindi Plantation and a seven-day cruise on the MV FeBrina will again be the Best of Show prize in the 11th annual Underwater Images Photo/Video Competition. For complete details on eligibility, rules, and entry forms visit the official competition website at www.UWIMAGES.org. The deadline for entries is March 1, 2008.
Roger Roth, contest founder and director, notes that this year's competition offers an opportunity for underwater photographers and videographers to win more than two dozen excellent dive trips, each valued at more than $2000. "For a $10 entry fee," he said, "these are tremendously better odds than most lotteries."
"I don't see why everyone who takes pictures does not submit at least a couple dozen entries," he commented. "And we have expanded our categories this year to give more opportunities to capture one of those top prizes."
Categories include "Conservation", "Majestic", "Togetherness", "Macro (Open & Novice)", "Wide Angle (Open & Novice)", a "video" category, and a new category added this year entitled "Divers and Marine Creatures."
The major international charities that the Underwater Images Competition supports include: DiveHeart, Pro Peninsula, and Mahonia Na Dari. DiveHeart's mission is to bring the world of scuba diving to physically challenged people. ProPeninsula is a conservation organization dedicated to empowering communities in Baja California, Mexico to protect and preserve their environment, with their main focuses being on a Sea Turtle Conservation Network which has gained international attention. Mahonia Na Dari ("Guardians of the Sea") is a Nature Conservancy non-profit group, which has been working to protect Papua New Guinea's abundant biodiversity by teaching their own instructors and students the importance of sustainability of their own natural resources through hands-on experiences.
Other sponsors of trips that could be won through the competition include: Tufi Dive Resort, Nekton Cruises, Wakatobi Resort and the Pelagian liveaboard, Odyssea Divers, Anthony's Key Resort, Kararu Liveaboard, Bilikiki Charters, Dive Tech and Cobalt Coast Resort, Tasik Ria Resort, Kungkungan Bay Resort, Loloata Island Resort, Archipelago Resorts and Fleet, Maluku Divers, Peter Hughes Diving, Ed Robinson's Maui Adventures, Cocotinos Dive Resort, Stuart Cove's, Provo Turtle Divers, Crystal River Resort, AbucsScuba Diving, and Ondina Liveaboard.
In addition the following manufacturers are supporters of the competition and have each provided valuable prizes: Ikelite, Pinnacle Aquatics, AquaLung, Submersible Systems, Backscatter, SeaVision, Ultralight, Lonely Planet, Cathy Church, CoralRealm.com, New World Publications, ReefNet, DUI, Akona, Exploration Design, Gates Housings and Living Sea Images.
