10 Trips Less Than $1,000: Laidback Getaway - Dive BVI, British Virgin Islands

The sleepy little island of Virgin Gorda, with its secluded beaches, historic forts and a seemingly endless supply of the island’s most popular rum drink, the “Painkiller,” will put any traveler at ease. The diving is pretty impressive too, with easy access to the famous HMS Rhone, a British mail ship that went down in 1867 and which is now covered in corals and swarming with fish life, as well as the wreck of the Chikuzen, a 246-foot behemoth located 12 miles off the northwest shore. If you really want to get away from it all in a place that still provides the diving creature comforts, check out the dive-and-stay packages with Dive BVI. You can spread out in the treehouse-like accommodations at Guavaberry Spring Bay, where screened and louvered walls on each individual home open so you can take in the spectacular view (and the island breeze). And you’re just a picturesque 20-minute walk from Dive BVI’s Yacht Harbor location, so you could go sans rental car if you really just want to chill. It’s worth noting (although this option would exceed the $1,000 mark) that Dive BVI is opening a new location on Scrub Island in conjunction with the the luxe Scrub Island Resort, a private-island resort in the BVI with a full-service marina, spa, villas with private pools — you know, the works.

Make It Happen

Dive BVI has partnered with Guavaberry Spring Bay Vacation Homes to offer versatile accommodations for its divers. Five-night packages with three days of diving start at $555 per person with four people sharing a two-bedroom home ($682 double occupancy in a one-bedroom home).
