The Tahiti Mystique

Have you ever looked into the eye of a humpback whale? Been in the water with stingrays and blacktip reef sharks? Been to a place romantic enough to inspire mutiny?

There's a place in the world I can't get enough of. Every time I venture to the South Pacific, I compare the wind, the sand, the quality of light, the blueness of the ocean, to Tahiti.

The next time I return I'll be going back to my favorite of the Society Islands Moorea, and I hope to be there at the very best time of the year for humpback whale encounters. The kind that change your life. If I were to mutiny from life, this would be my hideout. Besides the whales, perhaps the best shark dive in the Society Islands, also off Moorea, where lemon sharks, blacktips and squadrons of snapper all converge in a tornado of color and teeth. Also dive one of the few floatplane wrecks in the world, right off the FAAA airport on Tahiti. You can expect to be blown away, but don't come alone. Tahiti's even more famous for romance than for sharks and whales.
