I'm Roger Roy, the ScubaLab director. We tested the Aqua Lung Big Squeeze Titanium dive knife. Eager to cut, impervious to corrosion and made to last, it was our Testers Choice for full-size knives.

We tested knives for their ability to cut a variety of lines, from monofilament fishing line to heavy rope. We also evaluated how well they held an edge after repeated use. We rated them for the performance of their sheaths, their locks and grips, and how easy they were to handle and operate - with and without gloves. We tested how they held up to extremely heavy use, including prying and cutting metal wires. And we gauged their resistance to corrosion by soaking them for up to 24 hours in salt water.

The biggest in Aqua Lung’s Squeeze line of knives, the Big Squeeze is also available in stainless, but we tested the titanium version. We wanted to find out how its cutting ability compared to the sometimes disappointing titanium blades we've tested in the past. But it didn't disappoint. Its 4 ¼-inch spear tip blade, with smooth and serrated edges, took the highest overall cutting score of any titanium knife in our test. “Cuts like a steel knife,” one tester noted. But unlike steel it emerged from 24 hours in the salt water tank without a stain. Our only gripe was the way the lock tab digs a little if you grip the handle with your thumb on the back. But otherwise the sheath and lock mechanism - which are secure and easy to operate - were rated excellent for security and functionality.
