Description: Ocean Log Free is the “Lite” version of a digital logbook, with some limited features. This version has multiple logbook themes (backgrounds and layouts), handwriting signature recognition, and a way to tie your photos to each dive.

Pros: This app is easy to use and straightforward — all the basics you need are provided. One of the best features is that Ocean Log Free lets you take an electronic signature from your instructor or dive buddy, much like when you sign for your credit card at a retailer.

Cons: There is no way to import or export information from your dive computer or desktop computer from the app. Another thing it is missing is the ability to put in your pressure groups after a dive. Plus, parts of it are in Japanese (even in the English version).

Bottom Line: This is a quick and easy app for using on a boat. It makes putting in your basic notes or keeping a basic logbook on-hand quite painless. It’s also an easy reference, so when you get home you can fill out your paper logbook without getting it all wet. There are more advanced logbook apps out there, but for free this one isn’t bad. I really enjoyed being able to have my dive buddy physically sign my electronic logbook.
