Compact Primary Lights: Light & Motion Sola Dive 1200
Carrie GarciaLight & Motion Sola Dive 1200
Burn Time: 70 minutes to 5 hours. Weight: 10.5 oz.
Measuring a scant 4 inches long by 2 inches in diameter, Light & Motion’s remarkable Sola Dive 1200 weighs only 10 ounces, including the battery and hands-free strap, yet it offers a choice of a powerful spot beam or a massive flood beam, each with three power settings. Slide the magnetic switch backward to make your beam selection, then slide it forward to choose a power level. Holding the switch in either position turns off the light, and rotating it 180 degrees locks it in the off position for stowage or travel. The spot beam rivals the biggest lights in this review in sheer size (24 inches in diameter) and minimal drop-off, and the flood beam offers a wide swath of unmottled white light. Depth rated to 300 feet, the Sola Dive 1200 comes with a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery. A trio of lED indicator lights lets you monitor the battery status more effectively. Yeah, it’s pricey, but this is one cool dive light.
