Submerge with SCUBAPRO - Pompano

The Submerge with SCUBAPRO gear demo tour hit Pompano Beach on May 9, offering free equipment trials, informative gear presentations, discounted boat dives with Pompano Dive Center, a tasty barbecue lunch and all the good times participants could handle. SCUBAPRO had all their latest gear available, including the new GO BC, Meridian computer, Seawing Nova Gorilla fins and much more.

The first dive of the day dropped participants on the Tracy wreck, a 131-foot trawler that was scuttled in 1999 after being seized by the DEA for drug trafficking. After more than decade under water, the ship is covered in a thick coating of growth and attacts heaps of marine life that makes for a very entertaining dive. In beautiful 60-foot viz, divers made laps around the hull, swam through the open wheel house and penetrated the open stern section, where a big school of bait fish made for killer visuals.

Dive number two in the afternoon sent attendees drifing along Lighthouse Point, a shallow patch reef that boasts big barrel sponges, swaying gorgonians and other healthy corals. Highlights included a massive loggerhead turtle that hung around with one group for a good portion of the dive, a few yellow stingrays and plentiful reef fish, from Atlantic spades to French grunts and more.

The tour continued May 12 with a stop in the Florida Keys at Islamorada's Key Dives operation. For more info, visit scubapro.com.
